Institutional Framework and National Outreach

Specialised technical partners have been engaged for:

  • Metadata creation

  • Deployment of scanning infrastructure

  • Integration with the National Digital Repository

  • Long-term digital security and preservation

A comprehensive manuscript conservation manual and a dedicated survey application have been developed and shared with experts and stakeholders nationwide.

The initiative was detailed in Parliament by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat , highlighting the government’s emphasis on systematic, technology-driven preservation of India’s manuscript legacy.

Broader Significance

By combining cultural preservation with digital innovation, Gyan Bharatam strengthens India’s soft power, supports indigenous knowledge systems, and contributes to global scholarship. The initiative positions manuscripts not merely as artefacts of the past, but as active resources for India’s intellectual and developmental future.
