Gujarat Cements Status as India's Renewable Energy Powerhouse

Gujarat has solidified its position as the undisputed leader in India's clean energy transition, emerging as the  largest contributor to the national renewable energy capacity . As of December 2025, the state's installed renewable power capacity has soared to  42.583 Gigawatts (GW) , accounting for a significant  16.50% of India's total . This achievement places Gujarat at the forefront of the country's efforts to meet its ambitious climate and energy security goals.

Unmatched Rankings and Capacity Leadership
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat clinches the top spot among all Indian states in  total installed renewable energy capacity  and is the national leader in  wind power capacity . It holds the second position for solar power capacity. The capacity is dominated by  solar energy (25,529.40 MW)  and  wind energy (14,820.94 MW) , with the remainder coming from hybrid and off-grid systems.

Mega Parks and Solar Dominance
Gujarat's solar landscape is diverse and massive, comprising  17,771.21 MW from ground-mounted projects, 6,412.80 MW from rooftop installations , and contributions from hybrid schemes. The state hosts some of the country's most iconic solar parks, including  Charanka (749 MW)  and  Radhanesda (700 MW) . However, the crown jewel is the  Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Kutch district . Planned for a colossal  37.35 GW , it is already operational with  11.33 GW  and is recognized as the  world's largest renewable energy park under development .

Pioneering Rooftop Solar and Wind Energy
The state demonstrates exceptional leadership in decentralized energy. With over  1.1 million rooftop solar systems  generating  6,412.80 MW , Gujarat accounts for  more than 25% of India's total rooftop solar capacity , driven by schemes like Surya Gujarat and the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. In wind energy, its  14,820.64 MW  capacity is bolstered by the Kutch region, which alone contributes nearly half of the state's total wind power.

Employment and an Ambitious 2030 Target
This renewable energy boom is also an economic engine, having generated an estimated  2.37 lakh (237,000) direct and indirect jobs . With  5,203 projects currently under implementation , Gujarat's ambitions are set even higher. The state has set a formidable target of achieving  105 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 , which would constitute roughly  20% of India's nationwide goal of 500 GW from non-fossil fuel sources .
