Overview
On 8 May 2026, India successfully conducted the maiden test of a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The launch took place from Abdul Kalam Island near Chandipur, off the Odisha coast. The missile flew over a danger corridor of about 3,560 km in the Bay of Bengal. This test strengthens India’s strategic deterrence capabilities.
