Currently, the contribution of women to the GDP of the country is only approximately 18 per cent and close to 196 million of the workable women are not in the labour force. Although the participation of female labour force has increased to 41.7 per cent, a very low proportion of women are employed in formal and secure jobs. The Supreme Court of India in an important decision in Shivangi Bansal vs Sahib Bansal (2025) has affirmed the guidelines laid down by the Allahabad High Court to deal with the perceived abuse of Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
