control water pumps and tanks from a central computer.
GIS mapping – GIS stands for Geographic Information System. It helps BWSSB map every pipe, valve, and customer connection on a digital map.
IoT-enabled tanker tracking – Internet of Things (IoT) sensors are placed on water tankers. This helps track where they go and how much water they deliver.
Smart metering platforms – Digital water meters that send readings automatically. No more estimated bills.
These initiatives are already showing results. Leaks are found faster. Water theft is reduced. Citizens get better service.
The Five Panchasutras Framework
The summit will also present BWSSB’s Five Panchasutras framework for future urban water governance. “Panchasutras” means five principles. This framework will guide how Bengaluru manages its water in the coming years. The five principles are:
-
Artificial intelligence – Using AI to predict demand, detect leaks, and optimise operations.
-
Data-driven governance – Making decisions based on facts and numbers, not guesses.
-
Smart infrastructure – Building pipes, pumps, and treatment plants that can communicate and self-diagnose problems.
-
Sustainable investments – Spending money on solutions that last long and do not harm the environment.
-
Climate-resilient water security systems – Preparing for floods, droughts, and extreme weather caused by climate change.
This framework is a roadmap for other Indian cities as well. If Bengaluru succeeds, other cities can copy its model.
The AI-Powered Command Centre at Shimsha Bhavan
One of the most exciting announcements is about a new command centre. BWSSB plans to launch an integrated AI-powered command centre for water and sewage management. It will be located at Shimsha Bhavan in Jayanagar , Bengaluru. This is proposed to be one of Asia’s largest integrated AI-powered command centres for water and sewage management. From this centre, operators will be able to see the entire water system on large screens. They will know in real time where leaks are, which pumps are failing, and which areas have low pressure. They can even predict problems before they happen. This is the future of urban water management.
Who Will Attend and Inaugurate the Summit?
The summit is expected to bring together more than 400 stakeholders . These will include people from policy, technology, research, and industry sectors. Government officials, engineers, startup founders, and academic researchers will all be present. The summit will be inaugurated by two top leaders of Karnataka: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar . Their presence shows that the state government fully supports this digital transformation of water services.
Why This Summit Matters for India
India is facing a water crisis. Many cities run out of water in summer. Pipes are old and leaky. Data is missing or wrong. AI and digital tools can solve many of these problems. But most water utilities do not know how to start. This
