  • Time magazine unveiled the TIME100 List for 2026, highlighting 100 individuals from around the world who have made a significant impact across fields such as politics, business, science, and culture.
  • As per the April 2026 World Economic Outlook released by the International Monetary Fund, India is now ranked as the sixth-largest economy globally, with an estimated GDP of approximately $4.15 trillion. The country stands just behind the United Kingdom, whose economy is valued slightly higher.
  • In the global wealth rankings, Gautam Adani, head of the Adani Group, has surpassed Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries to emerge as the richest individual in Asia.

  • Himachal Pradesh Sawan Barwal made history by establishing a new national record in the NN Marathon Rotterdam. He broke the record set by Shivnath Singh in 1978, which had been there since decades.
  • The Wisden Cricketers' Almanack named Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc and Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma as the Leading Cricketers in the World in 2025, recognising their outstanding performances during the year.
  • In March 2026, Sanju Samson was awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, due to his influential performances in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, where he scored a number of match-winning innings.
  • Amelia Kerr, the captain of the New Zealand team, was named the ICC Women Player of the Month in March 2026 due to her all-round performances in the matches with Zimbabwe and South Africa.
  • R Vaishali, an Indian chess player, won the FIDE Women Candidates Tournament 2026 in Cyprus, which is a major milestone in her career.
  • In 2026, the Mumbai Cricket Association implemented a formal contract system with domestic players beginning with the 202627 season. This project renders it the first state association in India to adopt a graded pay model.
  • The International Cricket Council declared the introduction of the Women T20I Challenge Trophy 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda. The tournament will widen the opportunities and advance women cricket in developing countries.

  • Padma Vibhushan awardee and legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle died at the age of 92 in Mumbai. She was known for her melodic voice and decades of contributions to Indian music.
  • Sonam Wangchuk, a recipient of the Mahavir Chakra for his courage in the Kargil War, passed away at the age of 61 in Leh after a heart attack. He is remembered for his bravery and selflessness.
  • Former sports administrator Narayana Ramachandran, popularly known as "Rami", died at the age of 77 in Chennai. He was instrumental in the growth of sports management in India.
  • Oscar Schmidt, one of the highest-scoring basketballers in history, passed away at the age of 68 in Brazil after a battle with a brain tumour. He remains an inspiration to basketballers around the world.
